Using Cinema to dissect reality

Sambaqui Cultural is producing vibrant fiction films

Three fiction feature-length films are being made simultaneously, each at a different stage of production.

TORNIQUETE (Suture), directed by Ana Catarina Lugarini, is a body horror drama that premiered at the 14th Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba Int’l Film Festival and is seeking its international premiere. Starring acclaimed Brazilian actress Marieta Severo, alongside Sali Cimi and Renata Grazzini, the film follows a multi-generational, all-female family dealing with the aftershock of a traumatic home invasion by revisiting the past, reclaiming the future, and repairing old wounds.

The second one, RUMOR, is the first fiction feature film by Joana Nin, a filmmaker and partner at Sambaqui Cultural, who has consolidated her career over the last 20 years making documentaries. The film stars Giulia Benite (Mônica from the Monica’s Gang films). It is currently in post-production and seeking opportunities for a world premiere at festivals in the first half of 2026.

Meanwhile, we’re preparing for the shoot of TROPICANA, a fiction feature set in vibrant 1990s Miami. Currently in pre-production, the film follows Lori (22), who immigrated to Miami in 1993 dreaming of earning a green card through singing. To support her 4-year-old daughter, Jade, she agrees to dance at a steakhouse, until one bad decision separates mother and daughter, placing both in danger.
